Introduction OBS Studio (Open Broadcaster Software) is the standard for live video production, and Flussonic Media Server is the gold standard for reliable video distribution. Combining them allows you to build your own independent video platform, free from the restrictions of Twitch or YouTube.
In this guide, we will show you the exact RTMP and Output settings needed to connect OBS to your AZ-StreamingServer Flussonic instance for a stable, high-quality stream.
Step 1: Get Your Flussonic Ingest Details #
Before opening OBS, you need to know where to send your video.
1. Log in to your Flussonic Admin Panel (or your AZ-StreamingServer Client Area).
2. Navigate to Media Server > Streams.
3. Locate your stream name (e.g., live_channel).
4. You need two pieces of information:
– Server URL (RTMP): usually looks like rtmp://[your-server-ip]:1935/static
– Stream Key: This is your stream name (e.g., live_channel).
(Note: If you have “Publish Security” enabled, your URL might require a password, e.g., rtmp://[server-ip]/static/live_channel?password=yourpass).
Step 2: Configure OBS “Stream” Settings #
1. Open OBS Studio.
2. Click Settings (bottom right).
3. Go to the Stream tab.
4. Service: Select Custom… (Do NOT select Twitch or YouTube).
5. Server: Paste your Flussonic RTMP URL here.
– Example: rtmp://video.az-streamingserver.com:1935/static
6. Stream Key: Paste your stream name here.
– Example: live_channel
Step 3: Optimize Output Settings (Critical for Flussonic) #
Flussonic is strict about incoming video quality. Incorrect settings here will cause buffering.
1. Go to the Output tab in Settings.
2. Output Mode: Switch from “Simple” to Advanced.
3.Encoder: Select NVIDIA NVENC H.264 (if you have a GPU) or x264 (CPU).
4. Rate Control: Select CBR (Constant Bitrate). Do not use VBR.
5. Bitrate:
– 720p: 2500 Kbps to 4000 Kbps
– 1080p: 4500 Kbps to 6000 Kbps
6. Keyframe Interval: Set this to 2 s (Two Seconds).
– Important: If set to “0” (Auto), your stream may fail to play on iPhones (HLS).
7. Profile: Main or High.
Click Apply and OK.
Step 4: Go Live #
1. Click Start Streaming in OBS.
2. Look at the bottom right corner. The square should turn Green.
3. Go to your Flussonic Dashboard (or your website player). You should see your video appear with a 10-20 second delay (normal for HLS).
Troubleshooting Common Errors #
Error: “Failed to connect to server”
- Cause: Wrong Port or Firewall.
- Fix: Ensure you included port
:1935in the URL. Check that your Windows Firewall isn’t blocking OBS.
Error: Video stutters or looks pixelated
- Cause: Bitrate is too high for your upload speed.
- Fix: Lower your Bitrate in OBS to
2500 Kbps. Use a wired Ethernet cable, not Wi-Fi.
Error: Stream doesn’t play on iPhone
- Cause: Keyframe Interval is wrong.
- Fix: Go back to Output Settings and ensure Keyframe Interval is set specifically to 2 s.
